As a community based nonprofit center, we provide exceptional early childhood education by nurturing the unique potential of every child through active partnerships with parents and families. We have a strong commitment to meeting each child’s developmental and educational needs. It is our belief that, with an appropriate learning environment and the guidance and support of professional teachers, each child and family are important parts of our community. Your child’s early years lay the groundwork for future growth and learning. MPCC nurtures creativity and curiosity, helping your child to meet his or her highest potential. MPCC offers comprehensive education programs for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years.

Assessment

Teaching Strategies GOLD is an authentic, ongoing observational system for assessing children from birth through kindergarten. It helps teachers to observe children in the context of every day experiences, which is an effective way to learn what they know and can do. The 38 research-based objectives are at the heart of everything we do and they define the path teachers take with the children in their classroom.

Screening

ASQ-3 is a set of simple questionnaires trusted for more than 20 years to check child development. There are 21 ASQ-3 questionnaires for use with children from 1 month to 5½ years old (one questionnaire for each age range). Here are the five important areas of development that each questionnaire looks at:

  • Communication: Your child’s language skills, both what your child understands and what he or she can say.

  • Gross Motor: How your child uses their arms and legs and other large muscles for sitting, crawling, walking, running, and other activities.

  • Fine Motor: Your child’s hand and finger movement and coordination.

  • Problem Solving: How your child plays with toys and solves problems.

  • Personal-Social: Your child’s self-help skills and interactions with others.

Curriculum

The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that promotes exploration and discovery as a way of learning, enabling children to develop confidence, creativity, and lifelong critical thinking skills.

  • Research shows that a whole child approach to education –one where children develop not only math and literacy skills but also the social-emotional, physical, and cognitive skills necessary to communicate, think both critically and creatively, and solve complex problems

  • is developmentally appropriate and better prepares children for life well beyond their time in a classroom.

Assessment

The continuum of resources developed by the Devereux Center for Resilient Children (DCRC) support the healthy social and emotional development and resilience of children and the adults who care for them.

Building from resilience research, DCRC has developed nationally standardized, reliable and valid assessments that help to strengthen protective factors in children from birth through preschool. These strength-based assessments provide the cornerstone of our work. Each assessment is:

  • Easy to Use. Complete an assessment and use companion strategies to build the critical social and emotional skills children need.

  • Research-Based. Nationally standardized, reliable and valid, the assessments meet or exceed standards for high quality.

  • Comprehensive. The assessments are completed by caregivers, teachers and families, ensuring a team approach to building social and emotional skills for all children.

  • Strength-Based. The tools help to build on a child’s existing competencies and offer a strength-based approach to address areas identified for growth.
